Meet Erica – Founder of Sŵn Y Môr Ceramics

Born and raised in Wales, Erica is the heart and hands behind Sŵn Y Môr Ceramics. Deeply proud of her Welsh roots, it’s the wild beauty of the land and sea that continues to shape her creative world. The Gower peninsula, with its crashing waves, dancing daffodils, and playful marine wildlife (who often accompany her on her sea swims), provides endless inspiration. Now settled on the edge of woodland in rural Herefordshire, Erica lives with her husband, children, dogs, rescue cat, and rabbits, where the flora and fauna of the Forest of Dean; wild boar, bluebells, and carpets of wild garlic — spark her imagination just as deeply.

Each piece begins outdoors: a beach walk, a sea dip, or a forest ramble, followed by a flurry of ideas jotted down in her ever-present sketchbook. Erica’s designs move with the seasons — celebrating the quiet magic of the natural world as it shifts and blooms, from rich berries and holly at Christmas to the bright cheer of sunflowers in the summer. She brings warmth, colour, and a touch of playful elegance to her ceramics, often using sgraffito, a technique of carving into clay to echo the textures and patterns of nature. As owner, designer, maker, marketer, and studio cleaner, Erica pours her soul into every part of Sŵn Y Môr Ceramics.
