This earthenware clay plate is inspired by many a wonderful sea swim, interrupted by an unexpected collision with a jellyfish! This jelly is enjoying the warmer waters at beautiful Rhossili bay. Each plate is handcrafted from earthenware clay, underglazes are then hand painted onto the shaped plate. The design is carved freehand into the soft clay using a special tool, in a process known as ‘sgraffito,’ (Italian for ‘scratch.’) Once carved, the plate is given a final matt clear glaze before its final firing in the kiln.
This plate is not suitable for food use.
Due to the freehand nature of the carving, slight variations in the design will occur. Each piece is truly unique!
