Two Seals at Three Cliffs

£40.00

Hand crafted from earthenware clay, this plate depicts two playful seals in the crashing waves at Three Cliffs Bay in Gower. Once the plate is made, underglazes are hand painted onto the surface and the design is carved out freehand, using a special tool in a process known as ‘sgraffito’ (Italian for ‘scratch’). The plates are left to dry slowly before a clear matt glaze is applied and the final kiln firing takes place. As each piece is carved by hand, there will be slight variations in the design.
